Problem Note 52833: Passwords might be saved as clear-text in log files when you execute Deployment Backup and Recovery tool batch commands

DetailsAboutRate It

When you execute batch commands for the Deployment Backup and Recovery tool, your web connection options, including passwords, might be saved as clear-text in log files. It is recommended that you find these log files and delete them.

You can find the files in this location: C:\Users\user-ID\AppData\Local\SAS\SASDeploymentWizard
The names of these log files begin with the batch command that was executed. Here is an example:
sas-backup_2014-4-30-9.51.32.log

The Deployment Backup and Recovery tool does not create these log files during a regular scheduled backup. Therefore, this problem occurs only when you execute batch commands from a Windows command prompt.

Suggested Workaround

When specifying the -password or -profile web connection options for batch commands, follow the recommendations in the SAS® 9.4 Intelligence Platform System Administration Guide. In the guide, navigate to the section "Common Options for the Deployment Backup and Recovery Batch Commands." Delete the resulting log file after you execute the batch command.

A fix for this problem is planned for a later release of SAS software.
